Supported employment aims to help individuals with IDD obtain and maintain employment. This means they may receive support in learning the necessary skills they need for a job they want to apply for and be assisted in complying with the required paperwork for application and once they are hired. Supported employment also extends to the workplace. People with IDDs are given job coaches that essentially help them adapt to the workflow, follow appropriate workplace behavior, and create good working relationships with their supervisors and colleagues. These make transitioning to work go as smoothly as possible for the client.
